ACLS HeartCode Skills Session – Part 2

This hands-on session is the final step in completing your AHA ACLS certification. Before attending, you must complete the online HeartCode ACLS course (Part 1) through the American Heart Association and email your completion certificate to CPR@IdahoAcademy.com prior to your scheduled session.

What to Expect in Part 2

The in-person skills check-off includes:

  • High-Quality Adult CPR
  • Airway Management
  • Megacode Testing

This session is required to finalize your ACLS certification.

Who Should Attend

Designed for healthcare professionals such as:

  • Physicians, Nurses, Paramedics, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists…and others as required by employer policy.
    Note: This course is not recommended for first-time ACLS students who have never attended an in-person ACLS class.

Certification

  • Valid for 2 years upon successful completion.

Testing

  • Skills check-off includes High-Quality BLS, Airway Management, and Megacode.

Duration

  • Approximately 3-5 hours .

This course is designed for healthcare providers that need ACLS for their clinical duties.  This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition of intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).

Intended for physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and others as required by their employer. 

Time:  Approximately 6-8 hours 

Certification Period:  2 years

This course is designed for students who have already completed the online Heartcode BLS Provider (blended) portion and only need the mandatory hands-on session portion of the course.

Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on session. The following link will direct you to the AHA website, where you can take the online portion of this course (separate and paid directly to the AHA) and receive your certificate of completion. You will then present the certificate at the start of the hands-on session of this class. Alternatively, you may email your completed certificate to CPR@IdahoAcademy.com before the start of class.

Intended for healthcare providers or professional rescuers.

Time:  Approximately 1-2 hours

Certification Period:  2 years, upon completeion of all course requirements, participants will recieve a BLS Provider Course Completion card via email

Testing:  Skills Check-off required

The American Heart Association’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate breaths and ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. The course reflects science and education from the 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Intended for healthcare providers or professional rescuers in hospital and out-of-hospital settings

Time:  Approximately 3.5 hours

Certification Period:  2 years, upon completeion of all course requirements, participants will recieve a BLS Provider Course Completion card via email

Testing:  Skills Check-off and open resource written test required.

Reminder:  Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructors may also teach Heartsaver classes.  

Below are the following steps to becoming an AHA Instructor:

  1. Have current AHA BLS provider certification and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline.  You must present your provider certificate before attending this class.  Email to CPR@IdahoAcademy.com
  2. Complete the online BLS Instructor Essentials Course-This is an additional charge that will be paid directly to the AHA. https://shopcpr.heart.org/bls-instructor-essentials-onlineThis online portion is required to be completed before this classroom instructor class. 
  3. Successfully be monitored teaching your first course within six months of completing the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course. This is typically done on the same day of your course.

Once you become an Instructor, you will have access to the most current emergency cardiovascular care science, course updates, training resources, and tools through the online AHA Instructor Network.

Fee:  Includes classroom portion, first-class monitoring, instructor eCard, and 1st year of alignment fee.  

Time:  Approximately 5-hour initial classroom and 3 - 4 hour class observation within 6 months.

Certification:  2 years

Testing:  Skills Check-off and open resource written test required

The hands-on skills check-off will include Child and Infant High-Quality BLS, Airway Management, Vascular Access, and Rhythm Disturbances/Electrical Therapy.  

Intended for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements.

Time:  Approximately 2 to 4 hours 

Certification Period:  2 years

Testing:  Skills Check-off required

An AHA PALS Instructor conducts the PALS Course in a classroom setting, supported by video. The course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The course offers life-like skills animations, team dynamics role play, and scenarios appropriate to different providers (pre-hospital and in-hospital). Students must complete a pre-course self-assessment and pre-course work before attending the classroom session. Intended for:  healthcare providers who either direct or participate in managing respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. This includes personnel in emergency responders, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements.

Time:  Approximately 8 hours

Certification Period:  2 years

Testing:  Skills Check-off and open resource written test required.

Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding within five to 10 minutes. Massive bleeding from any cause, but particularly from an active shooter or explosive event where a response is delayed, can result in death. Like how the general public learns and performs CPR, the public must learn proper bleeding control techniques, including using their hands, dressings, and tourniquets.

Intended for construction workers, arborists, mechanical, teachers, police officers, and any individual who wants to learn more than what is taught in a First Aid class on controlling bleeding.

Fee:  $15

Time:  Approximately 1 hour

Certification:  Course completion certificate

Testing:  No testing is required

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED teaches participants to provide first aid, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively. Based on the latest American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Intended for:  The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs an OSHA-compliant course completion card—or anyone who simply wants to be ready to respond in an emergency.

Time:  Approximately 4  hours

Certification Period:  2 years

Testing:  Skills Check-offs only. No written exam.

The Family & Friends CPR Course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only CPR, adult CPR with breaths, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED use, infant CPR, and mild and severe airway block for adults, children, and infants. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment using the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible. 2 hours

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR/AED

AHA (American Heart Association)  Heartsaver Pediatric course is designed for childcare providers at home and in-facility health care environments. The Heartsaver Pediatric Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, provide early use of an AED, and deliver high-quality First Aid.  

Intended for child care workers, teachers, babysitters, etc

Time:  Approximately 3.5 hours

Certification Period:  2 years

Testing:  Skills Check-off required
